Discuss the Client Considerations for the Creation of the Product from the Pitch (D1)
The brief provided to me by the BFI for use throughout this project required 'the next great British horror film', adhering to all of their cultural criteria to ensure the eligibility of the final product for them.
The target audience for my product spans the vast majority of members of the Millennial and Gen Z generations, with many of the aspects of the film likely to appeal to these people. The choice to set the film in 2004 will appeal to the nostalgia of a certain amount of this group, as some amount of their childhood or early adulthood will have been in this kind of time. The nature of an online release of the film will also appeal to them, as the majority of viewers will discover the film when looking for real compilations of adverts from this time, hence the title of the short. The analogue horror and found footage horror genres, both of which this product somewhat utilise elements of.
In the planning and pitching of my product, I paid close attention to the provided brief and the BFI cultural criteria. I ensured that I planned to employ only British actors and crew members and both set and planned to record all required scenes either within the UK or in an entirely computer-generated environment.
During my pitch presentation, I was asked a series of questions. The first of these was regarding the amount of time I was expecting the project to take, to which I responded around three months. The second was regarding the number of people I hope to involve in this project, the answer to which being three to four actors and one to two production crew members. The final one was regarding the availability of filming locations, which I confirmed I had accounted for.
In conclusion, I think the planning and preparation I have conducted so far has been successful in meeting the requirements set out in the client's brief. Having been through this process, I am now confident that I will be able to continue to work with the planning materials I have created going forwards with the creation of this project.
